Football? Food!

Topic: Super Bowl and traditional American food

       Do you know what is going on the 5^th Feb. that cheers the whole America up? That is Super Bowl!

       Actually that is the second Sunday since we have been here, Mississippi State University. Everything here is still new to me, so I have a great number of energy to find things new and try things new. When the first time that I heard about Super Bowl, I don’t know what it is exactly. And then, I got the answer: football game! Indeed the Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League. In China, football is not very popular, it seems like there is no one, except some international students, playing football in school, including middle school, high school, and college. In other words, I am not familiar with football anymore. But I still want to join in the big celebration to enjoy the America culture. And I find one of my classmates in high school, who are getting education in American now, will go to see Super Bowl as well. I feel it is awesome! Because it seems like it would be a big celebration.

       During the week, Neva, who is our teacher of culture, gave us some advice to choose the restaurant that we could go to for Super Bowl. Jessie, Wendy, and I chose Applebee to go on that day. I was surprised and really happy to find that there was another two people who would go with us for Super Bowl that night. They are Tyler and Lalexis.  

       Lalexis is very nice! She drove us to Applebee without felling worried about that. Because I heard one of my classmates in the ESL class that her roommate here drove her to Wal-Mart saying nothing but told her to pay $20 in the end. This is not common in China, because Chinese people usually think talking about money within friends are impolite. It means we always do something to our friends without getting some money from them. For example, when my friend and I go the restaurant together, each of us could pay but we don’t pay both often. In America, the AA is very popular. I think it’s OK because it’s different culture. But what I have heard from my classmate surprised me a lot. Because in my mind, American people are very friendly. I think it would be OK if her roommate told her first but not like that.

       When we arrived at Applebee, I can’t help eating delicious food because I was really hungry. Actually, I haven’t tried some traditional American food since we have been here. What we usually take is fast American food, not traditional American food. I have tried some traditional American food in China. It’s in a restaurant named Friday. I saw a restaurant named Friday in Memphis. Maybe they are belongs to the same company, or not. Food there is really great! I enjoy the steak, rib, salad, soup and so on. You know, I miss it a lot!

       I think food in Applebee is similar as Friday. I like the salad and the steak. They are tasted very well. During my big dinner, I realized that we came here for Super Bowl! Oh my god, I usually enjoy my dinner with thinking nothing. Then I asked Tyler about the game. She said it was already begun. I was surprised because in my mind, whole people in the restaurant would cheer up the beginning of Super Bowl. Tyler told me she doesn’t like football and I don’t like it as well. Because I think football is violent and some players will easily get hurt. So I just keep on enjoying my food without caring about Super Bowl.
